"Blind Earl" Pattern

Purchase by HHHA, 1955

Worchester, "Blind Earl" Pattern Dishes named after the Earl of
Coventry after he lost his sight. The pattern is made up of deep, emerald
green leaves some of which are slightly raised on the glassy surface of the plate. The
Worchester factory began production in 1751, initially producing rather poor quality copies of exceptional Chinese ceramics. Later,
Worchester was known for its blue and white printing, essentially enabling the
company to mass produce similar images at a more rapid pace. An open
crescent "( "commonly marks Worchester objects between 1758-1790.
